Wouldn’t it be fantastic if everyone could simply access social media directly with their minds? It’s the year 2050, and sixteen-year-old Grace Malone is finally old enough for Voices, a tiny computer chip painlessly implanted directly into the brain to replace all those old-fashioned cellphones and computers. But when her head is suddenly inundated by a world full of political unrest and social justice warriors, Grace is having second thoughts. That’s when she meets a boy named Max, a techie geek from the other side of the tracks who refuses to be chipped, and she begins to question all the social media groupthink, cancel culture, and internet bullying bouncing around her brain. Inevitably, when packs of marauding violent mobs take things too far, infiltrating the government and law enforcement, even threatening her family, Grace and Max are ultimately drawn into the battle between right, left, anarchists, police, and the military. But will they be able to stop a world gone mad with just an antique Android phone, a glitchy portable Nintendo game console, and the best of intentions? Oh, and did I mention the ballistic missile?
