is designed for ESL oral communication classes in a hospitality program. The aim of this course is to improve conversational fluency and refine the four key language skills, while deepening understanding of customer service skills together with social and cultural issues as reflected in English language film. Customer service situation snippets from well-known movies provide engaging, language-rich, audio-visual language model. Critical analysis and discussion of (near) real-world social situations portrayed in contemporary movies provides ideal opportunity for the language student to improve language skills in a motivating and entertaining manner.
To aid the development of communicative competence, in addition to tiered discussion tasks, each unit includes structured and unstructured role-play tasks that require students to apply analytical skills in the deconstruction and negotiation of a variety of social situations and settings while engaging related key language.
